In 1975, 11-year-old Gru (Carell) plans to become a supervillain, assisted by the Minions (Coffin). He runs afoul with professional villain group, the Vicious 6, when he steals their stolen Zodiac Stone.

The film received praise from critics for its musical numbers and entertainment value for families, although criticism was directed toward the film’s plot. The film has grossed $668 million worldwide, making it the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2022.

I’ve been a fan of the Despicable Me franchise from the very start, so I’m always up for a new installment involving these characters. I’m also aware that the Minions themselves are divisive (not to mention they spawned various imitators of varying quality), but I personally enjoy them (plus I am a sucker for physical comedy).

Like with the first Minions movie, I enjoy the period aesthetic going on (the first one primarily being being set in the 1960s, this one in 1970s), which includes many of the rocking tunes of the era. The humor is fast paced, nothing ever overstays its visit I feel, and a lot of the action set pieces are creative. The animation is well done and colorful, and the voice cast does a great job. So if your a fan of this franchise, I definitely say give this one a watch.
