Vincente Minnelli (born Leo Anthony Minnelli; February 28, 1903 – July 25, 1986) was an American stage and film director. He directed the classic movie musicals Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), with Judy Garland, Margaret O’Brien, Mary Astor, Lucille Bremer, Tom Drake, Leon Ames, Marjorie Main, June Lockhart, and Joan Carroll; An American in Paris (1951), with Gene Kelly and Leslis Caron; The Band Wagon (1953), with Fred Astaire; and Gigi (1958), with Caron. An American in Paris and Gigi both won the Academy Award for Best Picture, with Minnelli winning Best Director for Gigi. In addition to having directed some of the best known musicals of his day, he also made many comedies and melodramas such as Undercurrent (1946), with Katharine Hepburn, Robert Taylor, and Robert Mitchum. He was married to Garland from 1945 until 1951. The couple were the parents of Liza Minnelli, who starred in his final film A Matter of Time (1976), with Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer, and Isabella Rossellini.

Carroll; The Bad and the Beautiful (1952), with Lana Turner, Kirk Douglas, Walter Pidgeon, Dick Powell, Barry Sullivan, Gloria Grahame and Gilbert Roland; The Long, Long Trailer (1954), with Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Marjorie Main, and Keenan Wynn; Brigadoon (1964), with Kelly, Van Johnson, and Cyd Charisse; The Cobweb (1955), with Richard Widmark, Lauren Bacall, Charles Boyer, and Gloria Grahame; Lust for Life (1956), with Douglas, James Donald, Pamela Brown, Everett Sloane, and Anthony Quinn; Designing Women (1957), with Gregory Peck, Lauren Bacall and Dolores Gray; The Reluctant Debutante (1958), with Rex Harrison, Kay Kendall, John Saxon, Sandra Dee, and Angela Lansbury; and Some Came Running (1958), with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Shirley MacLaine.

Cobb, Paul Lukas, Yvette Mimieux, Karl Boehm, and Paul Henreid; Two Weeks in Another Town (1962), with Kirk Douglas, Edward G. Robinson, Cyd Charisse, Claire Trevor, Daliah Lavi, George Hamilton, and Rosanna Schiaffino; The Courtship of Eddie’s Father (1963), with Ford, Ron Howard, Shirley Jones, and Stella Stevens; Goodyear Charlie (1964), with Debbie Reynolds and Tony Curtis; The Sandpiper (1965), with Taylor, Richard Burton, Eva Marie Saint, and Charles Bronson; and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever (1970), with Barbra Streisand, Yves Montand, Bob Newhart, Larry Blyden, Simon Oakland, Jack Nicholson, and John Richardson.
