He later made such notable films as Deep Valley (1947), with Ida Lupino and Dane Clark; Johnny Belinda (1948), which got him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director; The Forbidden Street (1949), starring Dans Andrews and Maureen O’Hara; Three Came Home (1950), starring Claudette Colbert; How to Marry a Millionaire (1953), starring Marilyn Monroe, Betty Garble, and Lauren Bacall; and Titanic (1953), starring Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwyck; Three Coins in the Fountain (1954), starring Clifton Webb, Dorothy McGuire, Jean Peters, Louis Jourdan, and Maggie McNamara; Daddy Long Legs (1955), starring Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron; Boy on a Dolphin (1957), starring Sophia Loren (in her English language debut), Alan Ladd, and Clifton Webb. His film The Pleasure Seekers (1964), featured Gene Tierney in her last theatrical role.
