James Mangold

James Allen Mangold (born December 16, 1963) is an American filmmaker. He made his directorial debut with the drama Heavy (1995), with Liv Tyler, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Shelley Winters, and Deborah Harry. He followed that up with neo-noir crime drama Cop Land (1997), with Sylvester Stallone, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, Peter Berg, Janeane Garofalo, Robert Patrick, Michael Rapaport, Annabella Sciorra, Noah Emmerich, and Cathy Moriarty; and the psychological drama Girl, Interrupted (1999), with Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie, Clea DuVall, Brittany Murphy, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Moss, Angela Bettis, Vanessa Redgrave, and Jared Leto.

Films in the 2000s include Kate & Leopold (2001), with Meg Ryan, Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Breckin Meyer, Natasha Lyonne, Bradley Whitford, and Philip Bosco; Identity (2003), with John Cusack, Liotta, Amanda Peet, John Hawkes, Alfred Molina, Clea DuVall, John C. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Dafne Keen – for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay; and Ford v Ferrari (2019), with Matt Damon, Bale, Jon Bernthal, Caitríona Balfe, Tracy Letts, Josh Lucas, Noah Jupe, Remo Girone, and Ray McKinnon – for which he recovers an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

Mangold is directing the upcoming sequel in the Indiana Jones franchise, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), with Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Olivier Richters, Ethann Isidore, & Mads Mikkelsen
