Jay and Silent Bob (Mewes and Smith) have discovered a film adaptation of the Bluntman and Chronic comics (of which they were the basis for) is going into production soon. After seeing some harsh comments on the Internet, they’ve decided to head to Hollywood and stop it from getting made.
Traveling cross country, they encounter several familiar and new faces, steal a monkey to impress a hot chick (Elizabeth; who’s in fact part of a group of jewel thieves), get chased around by an incompetent federal wildlife Marshall (Ferrell), and crash a few movie productions (including the long anticipated sequel, Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season!).
This was the first Kevin Smith film I ever saw in theaters, I was a few weeks away from turning 14 when I got to see it. Knowing it was connected to Smith’s previous films (the View Askewniverse), I made sure to check them all out again (or the first time) so that I would be familiar with the various characters who cameo in the film (it definitely helps knowing these things to understand certain jokes). The film was a minor box office hit, earning $33.8 million against a $22 million budget, and received mixed reviews from critics (not too surprising given the overall silliness of the film).
This was a film right up my alley when it came out in 2001, and that hasn’t changed! If you want some fun, lighthearted comedy, with lots of four letter words then this is the film for you! Snoogans!
