A year after the events of The Last Jedi, the remnants of the Resistance face the First Order once again, while Rey (Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Driver) deal with the past and their own inner turmoils. Meanwhile, the ancient conflict between the Jedi and the Sith reaches its climax, bringing the Skywalker saga to a definitive end.

The film has received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising its celebration of the entire saga and others considering it unimaginative and derivative. Fan response has been significantly more positive. That includes this fan! Plus the audience I was with clearly had a great time too! I felt like a kid again watching this movie, which to me means the movie did its job well. I wanted a Star Wars movie and that’s what I got.

Once again the new cast does a fantastic job, and it’s so great to see the familiar faces of the older franchise, who still got the magic that helped make these characters so memorable. Seeing Lando and Leia together was both poignant and heartbreaking (just like in Last Jedi with Luke and Leia), knowing that Carrie Fisher is no longer with us! I also love stories about finding your purpose and not letting your lineage be what defines you as a person, which is very much a theme in this film.

If you love Star Wars then you owe it to yourself to see this.
