The film premiered at the Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles, California on May 30, 2023, and was released in the United States on June 2, having been delayed from an original April 2022 date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Like its predecessor, the film received acclaim from critics, and was a box office success, grossing over $572 million against a production budget of $100 million at the worldwide box office, surpassing its predecessor and becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2023. A third film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is scheduled to be released on March 29, 2024, while a female-focused spin-off film, Spider-Woman, is in development.
I was a fan of the first movie, so naturally I was all for seeing a sequel. It went above and beyond my expectations for a kick ass sequel! Like the first movie, this one captures the look and feel of a comic book perfectly, and it does new things with the animation rather than strictly repeating itself. Seriously, damn near any frame of this could be framed on a wall!
The returning voice cast do a great job like last time, while the new members provide plenty laugh, thrills, and menace (sometimes all at once). Some might be put off by the 2hr 20min runtime, but I can assure you it all slings (hehe) at an amazing (hehe) pace that you won’t notice that.
So yeah I highly recommend seeing this movie if you’re a fan of Spider-Man, comic books, superhero movies, animation, and just good cinema!
