Colin Higgins (July 28, 1941 – August 5, 1988) was an Australian-American screenwriter, actor, director, and producer. He made his screenwriting debut on Hal Ashby’s Harold and Maude (1971), with Ruth Gordon, Bud Cort, Vivian Pickles, Cyril Cusack, Charles Tyner, and Ellen Geer. Other writing credits include Jeannot Szwarc’s TV movie The Devil’s Daughter (1973), with Shelley Winters, Belinda Montgomery, Robert Foxworth, and Jonathan Frid; Arthur Hiller’s Silver Streak (1976), with Gene Wilder, Jill Clayburgh, Richard Pryor, Patrick McGoohan, Ned Beatty, Clifton James, Ray Walston, Scatman Crothers, and Richard Kiel; and the miniseries Out on a Limb (1987), with Shirley MacLaine, John Heard, Charles Dance. Anne Jackson,and Jerry Orbach.

He made his directorial debut on Foul Play (1978), with Goldie Hawn, Chevy Chase, Dudley Moore, Burgess Meredith, Eugene Roche, Rachel Roberts, Brian Dennehy, and Billy Barty. His other directorial efforts include 9 to 5 (1980), with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, Dabney Coleman, Elizabeth Wilson, and Sterling Hayden; and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), with Burt Reynolds, Parton, Jim Nabors, Charles Durning and Dom DeLuise.
