John David Landis (born August 3, 1950), is an American film director, comedian, writer, and producer. He is best known for the for directing such comedy as National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978), produced by Ivan Reitman, co-written by Harold Ramis, starring John Belushi, Peter Riegert, Tim Matheson, John Vernon, Tom Hulce, Stephen Furst, Karen Allen, and Donald Sutherland; The Blues Brothers (1980), with Belushi and Dan Aykroyd; Trading Places (1983), with Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, Ralph Bellamy, Don Ameche, Denholm Elliott, and Jamie Lee Curtis; Into the Night (1985), with Jeff Goldblum; Spies Like Us (1985), with Aykroyd and Chevy Chase; Three Amigos (1986), with Steve Martin, Chase, and Martin Short; Coming to America (1988), with Murphy, Arsenio Hall, and James Earl Jones; and Beverly Hills Cop III (1994).

He also wrote and directed the horror comedy An American Werewolf in London (1981), with David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, and Griffin Dunne; and Michael Jackson’s music videos Thriller (1983), with narration by horror legend Vincent Price; and Black or White (1991); the gangster comedy Oscar (1991), with Sylvester Stallone, Ornella Muti, Reigert, Chazz Palminteri, Marisa Tomei, Vincent Spano, Tim Curry, and Kirk Douglas; Blues Brothers 2000 (1998), with Aykroyd, John Goodman, and various returning cast members from the first film; and the British black comedy Burke & Hare (2010), with Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis.
